Your health is our top priority. As more people are getting COVID-19 vaccines, our guidelines for preparing for a surgical procedure are changing.
You are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 if it has been 14 days since you received the second dose of the two-dose vaccine by either Pfizer or Moderna or the single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.
Preparing for Surgery if You’re Fully Vaccinated
- Testing for COVID-19 is NOT required if you are fully vaccinated, even if you have had a positive COVID-19 test in the last 90 days.
Preparing for Surgery if You’re Not Vaccinated
- Expect to get tested for COVID-19 within 72 hours of surgery – you’ll be instructed where to go for testing by the scheduler.

- If you have had a positive COVID-19 test within 90 days of your procedure and are not experiencing symptoms, no additional test is needed.

Immunocompromised – Vaccinated and Not Vaccinated
- Testing is required, even if you’re fully vaccinated, due to the increased incidence of persistent and/or relapsing COVID-19 among those who are immunocompromised.
When You Arrive for Your Procedure
- You’ll need to wear a mask (unless medically impossible) and observe physical distancing guidelines whenever possible.
- Before entering the hospital, you will get a temperature check and symptom screening.
- Bring your contact information for support person.
